"Spring Break" in Tennessee for the Mummery's

I hope you all are having a great Canadian March Break! We had the pleasure of following Grace and her Wheeling University softball teammates around Virginia and Tennessee last week for their pre-season games during her school break and enjoyed some much needed family time.

On the way down we stopped part way because 11 hrs after school Friday was too much. I used this website that tells you the halfway point between two places to find a place to sleepover, and thought that it was super cute to choose a place called Dover, Ohio 😆. It was retro looking and except for the fact that the bathroom tile floor was freezing, it was very nifty.

First stop for games was in Wise, Virginia at UVA, and just for the one night because after the Sunday double header we were off to Bristol. Virginia? Tennessee? Depends on what side of the street you stand on… literally.

When we arrived in Bristol we had some free time and loved the downtown shops and especially the fact that one side of the street was in Virginia and the other in Tennessee. I actually thought I had mistakenly booked the wrong hotel lol. One of the shopkeepers told us that during Covid each side of the street had different rules with one being shut down and the other open. Separate policing, separate government and different sales tax, crazy!

The Wheeling Cardinals had a rain delay of a day so we watched an afternoon matinee of Wonka while Grace went bowling with her teammates. They played 2 sets of double headers there at King University and Emory & Henry College - beautiful facilities for sure. After that we were off to Knoxville and excited to watch a top 10 in the country D1 Tennessee Lady Vols softball game. Now THAT is a stadium 🤩

Knoxville wasn’t what I had pictured in my mind but we were too far from Nashville, with a 3 hour drive one way, so we wandered the downtown quickly and were off to the outlets. That of course is always a good time except for the exchange rate 😬

The Lady Vols softball game was impacted by weather unfortunately so after a few delays, we watched South Dakota vs Missouri and then stayed for just a couple of freezing cold innings and headed to the hotel to pack up. Wrapping up the trip at Carson Newman University we watched the two games bundled up with our new heated stadium seats and gave big hugs to our girl who was hurt in the first game and had to sit out. Luckily nothing serious - but a nasty bruise to show her hard work blocking!

A few tears as we watched her climb on the bus headed back to school to start the season this weekend (from mum) and an almost full heart. So until both Grace and Sophie are home this July sleeping in their beds with their sisters, all under one roof, facetime will have to do ❤️
