The Enchanted Bookshop the Musical

The Enchanted Bookshop the Musical – a Young Theatre Players Production

An ordinary used book shop by day, A Likely Story becomes a magical place each night. Thanks to a spell from the Book Fairies, the characters inside the books come alive each and every night. Six of those characters — Dorothy Gale, Robin Hood, Pollyanna, Sherlock Holmes, Heidi, and Tom Sawyer — long to help Margie, the scatterbrained owner, save her struggling store. But they’re not allowed to leave the building or be seen by human eyes.
So when a pair of bumbling smugglers comes looking for a stolen necklace hidden inside one of the books, the characters are torn. Should they warn Margie and risk disappearing forever? Or can they find a way to defeat the crooks without being seen?
Come out to Young Theatre Players to see how these characters come together!

22 local youth are performing in this musical. Senior Students are leading the production side. You are supporting local talent and supporting local art in our community. It’s a win-win scenario - wrapped up in a night of entertainment for your family.

Netting the Waters - A Celebration for Port Dover's Fishing Community

Join us in celebrating Port Dover’s fishing community and the award winning film, Netting the Waters.

The top-grossing movie shown at the Strand Theatre in Simcoe over the past 25 years does not feature Tom Cruise driving a motorcycle off a cliff or Margot Robbie bringing Barbie to the big screen.

Netting the Waters is a documentary created by local photographer and videographer, Daryl Granger. It showcases life on the water as a commercial fisherman and features local Captains and Crew.

The film has won numerous awards from film festivals across the world, has been playing in movie theatres from London to Toronto and has had over 100 screenings locally at Simcoe’s Strand Theatre as tickets continually sold out.

We are brining this documentary home to Port Dover with an outdoor viewing event. The event will celebrate the local fishing community with live music, local food from Gator BBQ and fun games and activities for the entire family.

This is a non-licensed event, no alcohol will be sold or permitted. No coolers allowed. Drinks and snacks will also be available for purchase. Admission is by donation.

All funds raised will support the Port Dover’s Kinsmen Splash Pad.

Event sponsors are: Kristina Kett of Edward Jones Port Dover, Ray and Amie Ferris of Erie’s Edge Real Estate, the Port Dover Kinsmen Club and the Port Dover Lions Club.

Jessica's Fine Adventures

Jessica's Fine Adventures

Meet Jessica Quartermaine – 69 years old, widowed for 19 years, the survivor of a 31 year marriage of — as she puts it — “relentless predictability” and “sensual deprivation”. Feeling more and more that life is passing her by, Jessica comes up with a plan to experience — in her words– “the euphoria of sweet intimacy”. To pursue this quest, she finds the courage to step out into the world by posting a newspaper ad that reads: “Mature, Well-Meaning Woman with Refined Sensibility declares it is her intention to seek Suitors Suitable for Amorous Possibilities. Only applications with a sense of courtesy, graciousness and a secure knowledge of grammar will be accepted. Fine penmanship a plus.”

With laugh out loud scenes and touching moments, Jessica does meet three Suitable Suitors: an experienced, very confident 65 year old Italian fashion model, a completely inexperienced, very insecure 43 year old librarian, and 73 year old Scots who has a very enthusiastic, larger than life personality.

What follows is a heart warming and hilarious journey of self-discovery, as Jessica in her quest for romance, finds unexpected new meaning to her adventure, and learns how to experience the sheer joy of being gloriously alive.
